The 50K starts at the big red Aerial Tram. Run up over the bridge, and make your way left up the Tram Line trail to the Lower Face Loop. The loop trail links to the Hoback trail, your first aid station at 2.5 miles. Cross the mountain side to the Saratoga Loop and connect to the Solitude trail. Keep going up the bike park trails until you reach the Casper aid station at mile 6.7. Run right up the Wildflower trail to the Holey Moley trail/aid station, taking the Casper Ridge Loop to the Cirque trail. If you need fuel before hitting the Cirque trail, drop slightly down to the Bridger aid station. The Cirque trail takes you to the Top of the World, or Rendezvous Mountain summit at 10.5 miles in (featuring fresh Corbet’s Cabin waffles). Don’t miss fueling up here, you’ve got big things ahead.
Run towards Cody Peak via the Rock Springs Ridge trail. You’ll reach the rock wall, scramble up the rock boulders to reach the summit and tag your bib. Take in the epic views and snap a photo before climbing back down the rock wall and making your way back towards the Top of the World, but instead taking a right down a service road. Along this way, you’ll find some water jugs stashed. Help yourself to water as needed. You’re about to enter the Rock Springs drainage, arguably the most challenging part of the course.
The Rock Springs drainage is steep, with loose rock and overgrown trails for about 4 miles. Some call this type 2 fun. Footing will be iffy at times especially in the scree area. After your descent, you’ll reach the Hoback aid station (~mile 17.3) to cool down, re-group and re-fuel.
Continue on the Hoback trail and connect to the Wildflower trail towards the Casper aid station (your 2nd time through). Complete your second climb up Holey Moley to reach the Bridger aid station (top of the Bridger Gondola) at mile 20.5. Fuel up, cruise down the zig-zagging Wildflower trail to reach the Casper aid station for your 3rd time through. Cool down here, things start to heat up and the race is far from over.
Leave the Casper aid station and connect on a trail you’ve yet to run before, that skirts on the outside of the bike park (South Pass Traverse). Cross the mountain via Seven Bridges and take the Lower Face Loop in reverse to the Hoback trail. At 26.5 miles you’ll reach our volunteers for one last cool down. Take Yurt trail to Lower Face Loop to Tram Line, reaching the finish line. No need to bookmark all of these trail names — the course is marked exceptionally well.
*Note the 50K course is slightly short at 28.3 miles.
